Goldwings North Wales has a charitable side to the riding of our bikes.
We are able to raise some funds by some of the events we do, particularly static displays and Birthday Rides and the like where we make no charge but do mention that we support charities.
This does lead to donations coming in which we as a group agreed many meetings ago that we would share out amongst local charities who would appreciate £100 or so donations.
Since then we have raised funds for several charities and the latest one to receive a cheque was HemiChat Limited.
HemiChat Limited is a registered charity trying to raise support for and awareness of Hemiplegia, a condition caused by a stroke in an unborn or newborn baby which can leave them partially paralysed down one side.
Up to 1 in 1000 children can suffer from hemiplegia but it is not commonly known by most parents.
On Thursday 18th July 2013, following a phone call made earlier in the day, I rode to the registered address of HemiChat Limited in Ruabon, where I spoke to Gillian Hayes, founder of the HemiChat charity, and a parent of a son who suffers from this condition.
I had the greatest of pleasure in presenting her with a cheque for £100.00 from Goldwings North Wales..
Gillian was delighted with the cheque and assured me it would be put to good use in promoting the awareness of Hemiplegia and in assisting this chat group to move forward.
