Tenby Weekend Rideout

Meeting up at Dolgellau

Jan and I have been on a good run and to a great location  – The Tenby weekend, as organised by Chris, our rideout co-ordinator.

We had arranged to meet up with Nigel and Joanna at 8am on the outskirts of Mold at the petrol station (really! – 8 am in the morning!). We were not sure whether Nigel would be able to make it – after all he does not believe the day contains two 8 0′clocks.

It started well with the petrol station (more…)

Anglesey Rideout – Sunday 11th July 2010

The scenic Sychnant Pass

Having been caught in some heavy rain the previous day in Caernarfon (See Caernarfon ride), we decided to return to the area on Sunday 11th July for the Anglesey Ride-out.

The route for this trip was organised by our rides-coordinator, Chris Phillips, as a circuit of Anglesey. This area is well known to me and I do enjoy a ride around the island, providing the weather is fine.

Jan and I, accompanied by Steve D. on his recently purchased 1500, turned up (more…)

“…And rain stops play” – for some!

Time for the waterproofs!

Saturday 10th July was scheduled for the ride-out with the Goldwing Riders Group.

Accordingly David and Janet, and Nigel and Joanna set off from the Chase at 8.40 am precisely to head West on the A55.

Our destination was the school in the village of Rhosgadfan where we were due to meet up with David Williams and riders, who were at the Mini Meet (more…)

Our revised holiday – A trip to Inverness

Still skiing above Aviemore

As most of you are aware Jan and I were unable to make the trip to Germany this year due to a family bereavement. As a bit of a break Jan and I took a trip to Inverness instead a couple of weeks later.

I have always wanted to visit the Inverness area as my grandmother was from the Grantown on Spey – Boat of Garten area and often used to talk about the area and what it was like.

Similarly I have heard from other bikers the more Northern parts of Scotland (more…)

One of those rides……

Bala LakeSaturday 5th June was a glorious day for me – The weather was lovely and warm and there was not a hint of a cloud in the sky and there was nothing major planned for the day so we had a day for a ride if we wanted to.

We should have been riding to Germany on this day for our Mosel Trip, but due to a family bereavement, it was cancelled as we had to (more…)

RBLR 1000 19 – 21 June 2010

Royal British Legion Riders BranchA reminder to everyone that a team of riders from Goldwings North West are going for this challenge and are hoping to receive support in order to raise money for the RBL.

The RBL do a fantastic job and really do support our servicemen during and after their time in the forces. They fill a very important niche in the support they give to the servicemen and women.

Please give the riders from GNWest your support (more…)

Nomads Scooter Club Run 18th April 2010

Run Arrival

The Run arriving at Betws

Nigel managed to do it again.

He hijacked a ride out to go and watch all the scooters riding into Betws Y Coed at the weekend, and we allowed him to do it – mind you, we always like a trip to Betws anyway so any excuse really.

Our normal club meeting took place at the Beaufort at 11 am but we ran it to a tight schedule so that we would be finished in sufficient (more…)

Another Tweenie at the Tudor Rose

The usual suspects

Another Tweenie has been held at the Tudor Rose on 27th February. This followed the very successful one held at the beginning of February.

This Tweenie was unable to attract as many attendees as the last one, but in its defence there were competing events (more…)

GoldWings North West 1st Anniversary Bash and AGM

A group enjoying themselves

A goup enjoying the meal

Saturday 30th Jan was the Anniversary Bash for the GoldWings North West at the Feathers Hotel, Leyland, celebrating as the name suggests the 1st Anniversary of the formation of GoldWings North West.

It was a great event with about 80 people in attendance, all in the mood for a party and to make it worthwhile after all the efforts that Lesley Halley went to to arrange it. (more…)

Mad Dogs and Englishmen

Llandegla Jan 2010

Llandegla Jan 2010

To anyone with sense the weather of the past couple of weeks was the perfect time to get on with those tasks which have to be done with the bike off the road; servicing, repairs, renovations and similar tasks.

How do we fair in this country when the conditions deteriorate? Not very well it seems – the roads haven’t been gritted anywhere near enough and the roads are sheets of compacted ice and where the ice has melted loads of deep potholes. (more…)
