Sunday 21st December 2014 was the date of the 2014 Alder Hey Toy Run, an annual event run mainly by scooter clubs from Liverpool and the Wirral areas.
Ian had arranged for anyone to attend on this one, but only Ian and I were at the meeting point (Ed did turn up to say hello but was unable to take part due to other commitments).
We took a leisurely ride to Birkenhead and through the tunnel to Liverpool.
Luckily, Ian knew where we needed to end up because he had some difficulty with the route, as so many roads have changed since his last trip that way, but we made it to the meeting point of McDonalds on the Edge Lane Retail Park.
On arrival at the McDonalds car-park, we met up with Dave and Lyn Crowley, with Phil Piercy and another couple, who were making the most of the opportunity to dress up and dressed up accordingly as Santa and helpers.
The car-park soon filled up with quite a few motorcycles, and trikes, but we were easily outnumbered by the scooters. (Well, it was mainly a scooter event!!).
Nigel would have been in his element here.
After some refreshment and use of facilities available, the ride moved off at 1.30pm
The route was not a long one but did take us a little way around. The direct route would only have been a few minutes at the most. Quite soon we were riding into the entrance drive for Alder Hey Hospital and were soon parked up.
It was heart-warming to see the presents and donations being made by the participants of the ride-out. especially when a human chain was formed to get them into the building from the car-park.
Soon enough Ian and I left the party to head home. This time we came back via the Birkenhead tunnel for a change of scenery and eventually to home.
A nice day out – I didn’t get cold as I had managed to get the right clothes for the ride, which makes a change for me!!
