Rhyl Air Show – Saturday 8th August 2009

A nice little jaunt took place on Sat, 8th August, to Rhyl to watch the Air Show.

We had hoped to be able to display the Goldwings and help raise money for the charity – Wales  Air Ambulance – but due to a failure of communication my message never reached the organisers but I have made contact for next year!

The Mackintoshs had left home at a very early hour for them (9am) so they could call for breakfast on the way.  Jan and I had to leave a lot later due to grandchild minding duties.

We met up with Nigel and Joanna in Rhyl , after they had found a  car park on the promenade, where there was a dedicated motorcycle parking bay (free of charge – even for

the trike). Once we were parked up, we only had to walk a short distance to the main display area and were able to get a great view of the Air Show.

The crowd for this event was very good and it is many years since Rhyl will have seen so many holiday makers on the promenade.

The Air Show was a very good show with an excellent display where the display line was the edge of the beach, this allowed the planes to get quite close, but with safety.

My camera worked overtime and so did Nigel’s camera, though his pictures are in a different league to mine.   To see some more of the pictures visit the main gallery of the website here

Talking about Nigel – he has developed a new ‘pole’ for his camera to mount on so that  he can get those high shots he want – take a look at the photos in this article.  It is not very hard to find him in a crowd now!

All too soon the Air Show finished and we headed into Rhyl town to find some food and drink. Unfortunately everyone else had the same idea, so we made do with an ice cream instead and returned to the Wings.  By this time the motorcycle parking area had become a lot busier and there were some interesting  bikes there.

After leaving Rhyl we made our way to the Mold- Denbigh road, where Nigel took off like a scalded cat.  He does enjoy a ‘spirited’ ride along this road, so of course, I tagged along

to ensure he behaved, (though at times it was a bit rapid for the trike due to the bumpy nature of the road in places).

It was a bit of a blow to find that one section of the road, which was a favourite for long queue overtakes, has been spoilt by a very long 40 mph speed limit imposed halfway along it.  The speed limit actually runs for quite a way and is excessive in my view, but that seems to be the way of things now.

All too soon we were back in Mold and time to go separate ways.    All in all,  a nice day’s outing.

A bit close!
