What a cracking day we had for our ride-out! The weather gods smiled upon us and allowed us to come out and play on the Wings.
We started out at the Beaufort following our monthly meeting which I kept short deliberately as there was a large contingent of GNWest riders who had come for a tour with us. Of course, we managed to catch Pete Rowe on the hop as he only had his little 650 at home- never mind he bought that along instead of his Wing.
A nice leisurely drive across to Ruthin then through Clocaenog to Cerrigydrudion, where we joined the A5 traffic westbound. A steady run along the old London to Holyhead Road ending as we turned right into the car-park. Our visitors were enjoying the scenery and said so repeatedly.
Lunch was served very quickly and efficiently at the Royal Oak in Betws, despite being very busy there with all the day visitors to the area.
Following lunch we ambled back towards our Wings and stopped to speak to some other Goldwingers who were parked up in car-park. We also found Kevin and Sandra who we thought had gone home, but it must have been a pit-stop for Kevin’s belly instead, and they followed us on to Betws.
We then set off intending to take the A55 from Glan Conwy Corner to Abergele then along the Coast Road to Queensferry.
Wrong! – just as we were leaving Colwyn Bay we arrived at the near stationary queue of traffic for as far as the eye could see.
Our visitors did not wish to filter (not that I could have done so on the trike) so Nigel could not lead them onwards through the blockage, so we diverted off and took them across country to St Asaph then Trefnant and through to Mold.
By this time a convenient stop was needed by most, and the Mac’s offered their facilities as well as a warming brew. It was very much appreciated by most.
All in all, a nice day out.
I hope this is the way rides turn out this year instead of the deluges we have had for the past couple of years. The only time I got damp was when the driver of the car in front of meĀ at one point decided to wash the windscreen, and it became obvious that the washer jets need adjusting, as I was able to clean my visor nicely with the resultingĀ fine mist.
