Stoke Egg Run – Sunday 21st March 2010

Early morning start for Nigel

An early meet up at the Beaufort

What a great day was had at the Stoke Egg Run by members of GoldWings North Wales and many other riders.

Congratulations to the organisers of this run which as far as I’m concerned went off extremely well.

It was well managed and the route was interesting and varied. I don’t know the final number of participants who took part, but the kind weather helped to bring out plenty of motorcycles, trikes, quads and scooters.

Mustering at The Stadium

Mustering Point - Brittania Stadium

It was a very varied affair and it was a good event to publicise the good things about powered two wheelers, (unless, of course, you were in one of the cars stuck in the road closures).

We had 5 bikes from GNW meet up at the Beaufort at 8.30am – Nigel and Jo, Dave and Elaine, Chris and Amy, Ian and Val, and yours truly, (riding solo).

Nigel then led us along a nice scenic route via Wrexham, Broxton, Nantwich and South Crewe to the Britannia Stadium, where with a slight detour around the block again we arrived in good time to watch all the arrivals, and where we were joined by one of our southerly members who happens to live just down the road from this event – Steve C-P with his yellow Wing.

We also met up with Pete and Karen who had come down with one of Karen’s relatives on a combination that Pete made in January using his Aquila Bike.

On the Parade

This provided Nigel with plenty of opportunity to work his camera and pole, to obtain his usual array of interesting photos of these events. Please do see the photos at 2010 Stoke Easter Egg Run.

The run itself was a wonderful experience with plenty of members of the public cheering us through. It was nice to feel so welcomed by the local residents, many of whom had taken their chairs out onto the pavements to watch the ride go by. I do have to say that the effects of the recession were felt a bit as there were fewer members of the public donating Easter Eggs to passing motorcyclists.

I was also pleased to see the junctions were well marshalled, and that the other road users were kind enough to be patient while we were passing them.

It was also pleasing to note that, within my view, I did not see any riding of the less responsible type. There was a very broad mix of riders on this ride with very in-experienced riders mixing in with some very senior experienced riders without any issues being apparent. It also never ceases to amaze me when the broad mix of vehicles seem to work together without any conflicts.

At the end we were able to meet up again after being split up during the course of the ride, in the car park and hand over our Easter Eggs at the collection point.

After a small stop we were then able to set off home via Prees Heath and the Raven Cafe, where some of our group stopped to have lunch, before carrying on back to the Beaufort for our delayed monthly meeting.

Luckily the weather held off long enough to enable most, if not all to get home without a drenching.

You always get someone.....!

  1. Wow, sounds like you had a great day! Wish I’d been there…..oh wait, I was! :) And I had a smashing time too, took loads of photos from the back of the Wing, some of which Nigel has managed to make look OK.
