The Wirral Egg Run 2009

A bit of a queue

Alright - who's Sat-nav got us lost?

Well another Egg Run over and done with, but by no means forgotten, without a doubt the biggest one I have seen and so other have said as well.

The Liverpool Daily Post headline “A total of 10,000 bikers took part in the Wirral Egg Run, which took riders on a 20-mile cruise around the Wirral peninsula.”

From the time it took for them to pass the point where we were waiting to join I can well imagine a number approaching that figure.

A gaggle of GoldWings?

We had started the trip off by meeting just outside Chester then a nice trip up the M53 to New Brighton, making our way to the Queens Royal Hotel on the front just beyond the parade start point. This is the location we agreed on to meet the members of GoldWings North West, being a bacon butty suppliers with tea or coffee for a donation. Following this we set off to join the parade.

For once  we did not joining the parade at the start point but waited at a close by junction so we saw the parade passing by before joining at the end just before the tail-end marshalls.

It was one of the best things we managed to do as we saw the Egg Run in it’s full form.

Who told everyone there might be free burgers?

It was stunning to say the least.  Some of the costumes worn by the riders and passengers were very unusual, and a large queue of riders followed the rider wearing the Cheerleader uniform. The range of bikes, trikes and scooters was enough to keep every enthusiast happy and there were enough street photographers to record the event for posterity.

Do take a look at the various photo storage site such as Flickr where a very large number of photos of the event can be viewed.

Where does the queue for the loo start?

The end of the run at Clatterbridge Hospital saw the car park completely swamped with bikes and riders. It was some time after the run had finished before we eventually left to return home.

What a cracking day – roll on next years run!

  2. I have know sold the CB750 sidecar outfit that Diane and I road on the egg run. It will be missed as I have had it for the past 4 years. So back to the 1500 GoldWing. This bike goes off to Leeds on Monday for a sex change. Next time I will ride it, it will be a Trike so hope to join you all on a run soon.Peter&Diane
